Douglas found his destiny at the age of nine inside a display village for modular homes. Plan book in hand, he spent long hours studying the drawings and renderings. His first commission was for an addition to his parent's home at the very mature age of ten. Forgoing the typical teenage interests, Douglas spent his high school years taking drafting classes and watching episodes of “This Old House” and “The Victory Garden." He went on to earn his Bachelors degree in Art before attending Washington University where he received his Masters in Architecture.

Douglas has fifteen years of of experience working in both the landscape and architecture fields. He has worked for various architecture firms on projects as diverse as affordable housing, school renovations, and highrises.  In 2000 he made a career shift by going to work as a Project Manager for a Landscape Architect. Douglas eventually was promoted to Associate at his last Landscape firm before embarking on his next adventure in 2007 as a self-employed consultant.

Douglas has been responsible for all aspects and phases of his projects from site planning and schematic design, to construction documents and construction administration. His background in architecture as well as his superior knowledge of plant materials results in projects that are carefully detailed and fully integrate the building design with the site. He is passionate about native plant materials and their use in landscapes that are both ecologically responsible and have a sense of place.
